Beard Transplant in Turkey: Grafts, Cost & Recovery (2026)

Last updated: October 2026

Short answer: A beard transplant moves hair from the back of your scalp into the beard area, one follicular unit at a time. A full beard built from very little hair needs about 2,000 to 2,500 grafts, a moustache with a dense goatee about 1,000 to 1,100, and sideburns about 200 per side. In Turkey, 24 of the 100 clinics in our database offer beard transplants, but few publish a beard price: Hairpol lists a $2,500 package (about €2,210 or £1,890) and Istanbul Vita lists €2,000 to €3,500; most others quote after an assessment. You can usually shave from about day 8, new hair appears from month 3 or 4, and the full result takes 10 to 14 months. Our methodology explains how we collect the clinic data.

How many grafts does a beard transplant need?

It depends on the zone: roughly 300 to 400 grafts per side for a moustache, 600 to 700 for a goatee, about 200 per side for sideburns, and 2,000 to 2,500 for a full beard when the patient starts with almost none. These planning figures come from a 2021 review of beard and moustache reconstruction in the Indian Journal of Plastic Surgery, written by surgeons who perform the procedure.

Beard zoneTypical graftsNotes
Moustache300 – 400 per sidePlaced densely, about 35 to 40 grafts per cm², single-hair grafts on the upper edge
Goatee600 – 700Same density as the moustache
Moustache and dense goatee togetherAbout 1,000 – 1,100The most visible part of the beard
SideburnsAbout 200 per sideDenser at the top so longer hair overlaps downward
CheeksVariesThe largest zone; soft single hairs at the border, more density in the body
JawlineFewMostly covered by hair from the cheeks overlapping it
Full beard from almost nothing2,000 – 2,500A second session may be needed for full density

Clinic quotes in Turkey land in the same range: Hairpol puts a typical full beard at 2,000 to 3,000 grafts and patchy cheeks and jaw at 800 to 1,500, and Natural Clinic cites about 3,000 for a full beard. If you are only filling gaps, your count will sit well below a full build. Our guide on how many grafts you need covers scalp counts by Norwood stage, which matters because both draw on the same donor area.

How much does a beard transplant cost in Turkey?

Most clinics quote a beard after seeing photos, so published prices are rare. We looked at the websites of the 24 clinics in our database that offer beard transplants and found two with their own beard price: Hairpol, which lists a $2,500 package (about €2,210 or £1,890), and Istanbul Vita, which lists €2,000 to €3,500 including the hotel (about $2,260 to $3,950, or £1,710 to £2,990). Natural Clinic says its beard price is given on request after assessment.

For context, the 15 beard-offering clinics that publish a hair transplant package start at a median of €2,000. As with hair packages, ask in writing whether a beard quote includes the hotel, transfers and aftercare; Istanbul Vita's price includes the hotel. Clinics in countries that bill per graft work differently: at the UK average of £3.25 per graft found in a 104-clinic study of hair transplant quotes, a 2,000-graft beard billed the same way would cost about £6,500. Our country price comparison and our guide to hair transplant packages explain both models.

All conversions on this page use the European Central Bank reference rate of 1 October 2026, when €1 was worth $1.13 and £0.85.

Who is a good candidate for a beard transplant?

Men with a patchy or very thin beard and a healthy donor area at the back of the scalp. The 2021 review lists the usual reasons: a beard that never grew in fully, gaps left by scars, burns or old folliculitis, stable scarring hair loss, long-standing alopecia areata, a moustache over a repaired cleft lip, repair of an earlier beard transplant, and men who simply want a denser or reshaped beard. The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) adds transgender men seeking a masculine beard; a 2021 practice guideline advises waiting at least a year after starting testosterone, so the surgeon can see which areas still need hair.

Age matters too. Beard hair keeps getting denser into a man's mid-thirties, so a patchy beard at 22 may fill in without surgery. And because the grafts come from the same donor area used for scalp transplants, a man who is also losing scalp hair should plan both together; every graft placed in the beard is one less available for the scalp later.

Where do the grafts for a beard transplant come from?

Usually from the back of the scalp. Surgeons prefer the middle of the back of the head because its hair is the closest match to beard hair, and they select mostly one- and two-hair grafts, since beard hair grows mostly as single hairs. For small jobs of 300 to 400 grafts, such as a scar or a moustache, some surgeons take grafts from the beard under the jaw instead. Beard hair is coarser than scalp hair, so a good team matches the graft to the zone.

Extraction is done with FUE, the same punch method used for hair transplants, and placement uses very fine slits or an implanter set at a sharp angle to the skin so the hair lies flat, the way a beard grows. Angle and direction decide whether a transplanted beard looks natural.

What is recovery like after a beard transplant?

Short, if you follow the instructions: most of the visible healing is over within about a week. Expect numbness on the day, which can make chewing awkward, so soft food helps. Small scabs form around each graft; the 2021 review advises keeping the area moist for the first 5 days, and swelling and bruising usually settle within a week.

WhenWhat to expect
Day 0 – 1Numbness from the local anaesthetic; soft food
Days 1 – 5Small scabs; keep the area moist as instructed
About 1 weekSwelling and bruising settle
From about day 8Shaving usually allowed again; follow your clinic's timing
First weeksTransplanted hairs shed; this is expected
Month 3 – 4New hair starts to grow
Month 10 – 14Full result visible

ISHRS also advises against touching the grafts early on and against strong sun on the treated skin. A shedding phase is normal: the hairs fall out in the first weeks and regrow from month 3 or 4. Our recovery timeline and results month by month guides describe the same pattern for the scalp.

Are there alternatives to a beard transplant?

Yes: time, and minoxidil. A 2025 systematic review of 19 randomised trials concluded that low-dose minoxidil can help facial hair grow with relatively few side effects, though many of the trials had some risk of bias. In a 2026 trial in transgender men, 3% minoxidil applied twice a day for 12 weeks added about 11 hairs per cm² to beard density, against almost none with placebo. Minoxidil on the face is off-label, so talk to a doctor first. If you are in your early twenties, waiting a few years is also a real option, since the beard is still filling in.

What can go wrong with a beard transplant?

The usual problems are cosmetic, not dangerous, and most come down to technique. The 2021 review names small bumps or uneven skin around the grafts, especially on the goatee and moustache, and hairs growing in the wrong direction when grafts are not placed at a sharp enough angle. Grafts with several hairs packed together look tufted on the face, which is why careful teams use single and double hairs. One session may not give the density you want, and a second sitting is sometimes needed. ISHRS adds a warning worth taking seriously: the beard line you choose now is permanent, even if beard fashions change.

That makes the clinic more important than the price. Ask who designs the beard line, whether the edges use single-hair grafts, and to see healed beard results, not just scalp ones. In our database, 12 of the 24 beard-offering clinics are confirmed as doctor-led; our ranking of the best beard transplant clinics in Turkey and the filters in Compare all clinics help you narrow the list.

FAQ

Is a beard transplant permanent?

Yes, in the sense that the transplanted hairs come from the part of the scalp that does not go bald, so they are expected to keep growing long-term. The design is permanent too, which is why the beard line deserves careful thought before surgery.

Can I shave after a beard transplant?

Yes, once the grafts have settled. The 2021 review allows shaving from about day 8; your clinic may give a different date, so follow its written instructions. After healing you can shave, trim or grow the beard like any other.

Will transplanted beard hair look different from my own?

It can be slightly finer, because it starts as scalp hair, which is why surgeons pick donor hair from the middle of the back of the head, the closest match to beard hair. Placed at the right angle and in single or double hairs, it blends with your existing beard.

Can I have a beard and a hair transplant in the same trip?

Some clinics do both, but they share one donor area, so the total number of grafts available is the limit. Ask the clinic for a written plan showing how many grafts go to each area and how much donor reserve is left.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey for a beard transplant?

Usually 2 to 3 nights, the same as for a hair transplant: arrival and consultation, the procedure, and a check-up and first wash before you fly. Our trip plan walks through the days.
