What is an unshaven hair transplant?

In an unshaven (no-shave) transplant the hair in the thinning area is left at its normal length. Grafts are placed between the existing hairs, usually with a DHI implanter pen, sometimes with FUE channels. In the donor area only narrow strips are shaved under longer hair that covers them, or single grafts are taken without shaving at all.

In the long-hair variant the extracted grafts keep their hair length, so you see a preview of the new hairline straight after surgery. Either way the goal is the same: to go back to work or social life with little visible sign of a procedure.

How is an unshaven transplant performed?

  1. Planning: the hairline and the graft number are agreed, and the surgeon checks whether the existing hair is dense and long enough to hide the work.
  2. Donor preparation: narrow strips at the back are shaved and covered by the hair above them, or grafts are taken individually from unshaven hair.
  3. Extraction: grafts are removed one by one with a micro-punch, more slowly than in a shaven session.
  4. Implantation: grafts are placed between the existing hairs, usually with implanter pens, taking care not to damage the hair already there.

Who is an unshaven transplant for?

It suits people who cannot take time off or do not want the procedure to be visible: women, patients with long hair, and men who need a small to medium session, for example to lower the hairline or add density.

It is less suited to large areas of baldness, because there is little existing hair to hide the work and the graft number per session is lower, usually 1,500 to 2,500. How much does an unshaven transplant cost in Turkey?

What is recovery like after an unshaven transplant?

The healing is the same as after any FUE or DHI: small crusts for about 10 days, shedding of the new hair between weeks 2 and 8 and the final result after about 12 months.
