Who performs the surgery at Istanbul Vita?

Dr. Harun Alakaya, the clinic's medical lead, plans every case and personally opens the recipient channels, and he also carries out the post-operative follow-up, according to the clinic's patient safety page. On the clinic's homepage, every stage takes place under doctor supervision: a 40 to 60-minute doctor consultation, hairline design with the doctor on the day of surgery and a doctor check of the donor and recipient areas the next day.

Dr. Alakaya graduated in medicine from Istanbul University's Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 2011 (Ministry of Health registration No. 159095) and holds the Ministry's hair transplant practitioner certificate (No. SEU-ESDB-212, 2025), which can be checked with the verification code the clinic publishes. The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) treats recipient site creation as a surgical step for a licensed physician, and at Istanbul Vita that step is done by the doctor in every package, including the €2,000 Standard. The medical team also includes a medical director, Mustafa Ayhan Balci, and a medical coordinator, Tugce Yilmaz Arslan. Our guide on whether a hair transplant in Turkey is safe explains why the doctor's role matters.

How does Istanbul Vita plan a hair transplant?

With six assessments before any graft target is set: donor capacity, the hair loss pattern, a microscopic donor assessment, hairline and recipient planning, graft number and distribution, and donor preservation. The clinic keeps extraction within the assessed capacity of the donor area, so the plan protects the donor for the future.

The clinic's own method, the Vita Technique®, examines grafts under a microscope and sorts them by thickness: the finest single-hair grafts build the front hairline, thicker multi-hair grafts build density behind it, and the blade size follows the graft, so fine grafts go through smaller incisions. Alongside it, the clinic offers Sapphire FUE for large areas in one session, DHI with the Choi implanter, which can be done without shaving, and a combined FUE and DHI technique. It also has dedicated programmes for Afro hair, women, beard, eyebrow, long-hair FUE and HIV-positive patients. Our DHI cost guide explains the difference between techniques, and our guide on how many grafts you need gives the usual ranges by Norwood stage.

What is the Istanbul Vita clinic like?

A self-contained clinic on the Asian side of Istanbul, run by its own team: 10 operating rooms, consultation and examination rooms, a sterilisation unit, hair washing rooms and dedicated areas for laser and oxygen treatments, so every stage from consultation to the last check-up takes place under one roof.

Istanbul Vita also trains other professionals. Its Istanbul Vita Academy runs a hair transplant training programme for physicians and technicians that is certified by the Ministry of Health, which authorises only clinics it considers qualified to provide it.

What does the treatment journey look like?

The whole trip takes three days. Day 1 is arrival and check-in at the hotel. Day 2 is the consultation, the hairline design with the doctor and the procedure, all in one day. On day 3 the team performs the first wash and shows you how to do it at home, the doctor checks the donor and recipient areas, and a laser therapy session supports early healing. After you fly home, medical support is reachable 24/7, and the team follows your healing and growth from your photos for 12 months. Our month-by-month results guide shows what to expect during that year.

What do Istanbul Vita's patient reviews say?

Patients rate the clinic highly across platforms. On its website, Istanbul Vita shows 4.9 out of 5 from 543 Google reviews and 4.97 out of 5 from 5,004 ProvenExpert reviews, and links its 302 Trustpilot reviews. The website's before-and-after section lists each case with the Norwood stage, technique, graft count and months since surgery, and two videos follow 4,500 and 5,000-graft Sapphire FUE patients at 12 and 6 months.

In our Transparency Index, Istanbul Vita is the only clinic that meets all 8 criteria: a named doctor and his role, its own published prices and package contents, a verifiable Ministry authorisation, its own facility, a written guarantee and linked reviews.

What does the Istanbul Vita guarantee cover?

Every patient receives a signed Graft Guarantee Certificate stating the number of grafts transplanted and the technique used, and the clinic guarantees that this number is accurate. The team follows every patient after the procedure, and if an additional procedure is considered necessary, the medical team plans it after a clinical evaluation.

International patients can also add a hair transplant complication insurance policy from Sompo Sigorta for about €15. Within the policy limits it covers complication treatment up to €500, including re-implantation when more than 10% of grafts are lost, an economy flight back to Turkey for treatment or revision up to €1,000, accommodation during treatment up to €100 per day and emergency medical treatment up to €30,000.

Who is Istanbul Vita a good fit for?

  • Patients who want the doctor to open the recipient channels in every package, including the lowest-priced one.
  • Patients who want a fixed package price that does not rise with the graft count.
  • Patients who want to verify the clinic's licence and doctor's registration themselves.
  • Patients looking for a specialised programme for Afro hair, women, beard, eyebrows, long hair or HIV-positive patients.
  • Patients who want a year of structured follow-up after they fly home.
