Best City for a Hair Transplant in Turkey (2026)
Last updated: October 2026
Short answer: For most patients the best city is Istanbul: 79 of the 100 clinics in our database are there, their median starting price is the lowest of the four cities at €2,000 (about $2,260 or £1,710), and its two airports carry international flights all year. Antalya, with 10 clinics, suits people who want to add a beach holiday, as long as the holiday comes before the surgery and not after it. Izmir and Ankara have 5 clinics each, too few published prices to call them cheaper. The legal rules are the same in every city: one national regulation covers every clinic that treats international patients. Our methodology explains how we collect the clinic data.
How do Istanbul, Antalya, Izmir and Ankara compare?
Istanbul leads on almost every measure we track: number of clinics, published prices, flights, and how much clinics disclose. The other three cities are small markets, so their figures rest on a handful of clinics and should be read as a snapshot, not a trend.
| City | Clinics in our database | Publish a price | Median starting price (€) | Show a Ministry licence or authorisation | Put inclusions in writing | Average transparency score (of 8) | International passengers, Jan–Aug 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Istanbul | 79 | 55 | €2,000 | 33 | 52 | 4.3 | 62.6 million (IST and SAW) |
| Antalya | 10 | 5 | €2,300 | 3 | 4 | 2.9 | 20.3 million (AYT) |
| Izmir | 5 | 2 | €2,150 | 1 | 0 | 2.4 | 3.4 million (ADB) |
| Ankara | 5 | 2 | €2,100 | 0 | 2 | 3.8 | 2.6 million (ESB) |
The licence, inclusions and score columns come from our Transparency Index, which checks what each clinic shows on its own website against eight criteria. The passenger figures are provisional airport statistics from Turkey's State Airports Authority (DHMİ). One more clinic in our database sits in Muğla, on the Aegean coast; with a single clinic and no published price, we leave it out of the comparison.
All conversions on this page use the European Central Bank reference rate of 1 October 2026, when €1 was worth $1.13 and £0.85. The medians above are about $2,260 or £1,710 for Istanbul, $2,600 or £1,960 for Antalya, $2,430 or £1,840 for Izmir, and $2,370 or £1,790 for Ankara.
Is Istanbul the best city for a hair transplant in Turkey?
For most people, yes: it offers the most choice, the lowest median starting price in our data, and the easiest flights. Istanbul's two airports, Istanbul Airport (IST) and Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), handled 62.6 million international passengers between January and August 2026, and the flow barely changes with the seasons: Istanbul Airport saw 5.6 million international passengers in January and 6.3 million in July.
Choice cuts both ways, though. Istanbul also has the widest spread in quality: its 79 clinics range from the most transparent in our index to clinics that disclose almost nothing. On average, Istanbul clinics meet 4.3 of our 8 transparency criteria; 24 meet six or more, while 25 meet fewer than four. The city does not pick the clinic for you; written inclusions, named doctors and a visible licence do. Our ranking of the best hair transplant clinics in Turkey and the filters in Compare all clinics are built for exactly that.
Can you combine a hair transplant with a holiday in Antalya?
Yes, if the holiday comes first. After a hair transplant you need to keep the grafted area out of strong sun and out of pools and the sea for several weeks, and Antalya's appeal is exactly sun, sea and pools. Clinics' aftercare instructions differ on the exact numbers, so ask yours; our recovery timeline lists the usual ranges. A week at the beach followed by surgery at the end of the trip works; surgery followed by a beach week mostly does not.
Season matters too. Antalya Airport (AYT) is built around summer tourism: it handled 4.8 million international passengers in July 2026 and about 0.5 million in January, roughly a ninth. Winter means fewer direct flights and more connections, often through Istanbul. Of the 10 Antalya clinics in our database, 5 publish a price, with a median start of €2,300, and 3 show a Ministry licence or health tourism authorisation on their website. One of them, Memorial Antalya Hospital, is part of a hospital group, which some patients prefer for the medical back-up.
What about Izmir and Ankara?
Both are real options, but small ones: 5 clinics each in our database, and only 2 in each city publish a price. In Ankara that includes HLC Clinic, one of the most searched clinic names on our site, with published prices of €2,700 to €9,000. Izmir's priced clinics start at €1,800 and €2,500. With samples this small, a median says very little, so compare individual clinics rather than cities.
Getting there is less direct. Izmir Adnan Menderes (ADB) handled 3.4 million international passengers and Ankara Esenboğa (ESB) 2.6 million between January and August 2026, so many routes from Europe and North America connect through Istanbul. That adds travel time, and on the way home after surgery a second flight is one more thing to manage with a fresh scalp. If a clinic in either city is the one you want, check its transfer covers the airport you will actually land at.
Does the city change the rules or the safety checks?
No. Every clinic that treats international patients, in any Turkish city, falls under the same national Regulation on International Health Tourism and Tourist Health, published in the Official Gazette on 13 July 2017. It requires both the health facility and any intermediary agency to hold an international health tourism authorisation certificate from the Ministry of Health; activities without one are stopped.
What does vary is how openly clinics show that paperwork. In our Transparency Index, 33 of 79 Istanbul clinics show a Ministry licence or authorisation on their website, against 3 of 10 in Antalya, 1 of 5 in Izmir and none of the 5 in Ankara. A missing badge on a website is not proof that a clinic lacks the certificate, but it is a reason to ask for it in writing before you pay a deposit. Our guide on whether a hair transplant in Turkey is safe covers the other checks.
Does the city change what the package includes?
A little. Hotel, transfers and aftercare are standard in Istanbul, where 56 of 79 clinics include a hotel, 59 include transfers and 66 include aftercare. Outside Istanbul the picture is patchier: in Antalya 6 of 10 include a hotel and 7 include transfers, in Izmir 2 of 5 include either, and in Ankara 3 of 5 include a hotel and 4 include transfers. Whatever the city, get the inclusion list in writing; our guide to hair transplant packages lists what is usually left out, and our trip plan explains how many nights you need.

FAQ
Is a hair transplant cheaper in Antalya than in Istanbul?
Not in our data. The median starting price is €2,000 across the 55 Istanbul clinics that publish a price and €2,300 across the 5 Antalya clinics that do. With only five Antalya prices the gap is not firm, but there is no sign that leaving Istanbul saves money.
Which Istanbul airport should I fly into?
Either works, but ask first. Istanbul Airport (IST) is on the European side and Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) on the Asian side, and the drive between them can be long in traffic. Check which airport your clinic's transfer covers and how far the clinic and hotel are from it.
Can I go to the beach after a hair transplant in Turkey?
Not in the first weeks. The grafted area needs protection from strong sun, and pools and the sea are off limits while the skin heals. Plan beach days before the surgery, and follow your clinic's written aftercare for the exact timing.
Do clinics outside Istanbul follow different rules?
No. The same 2017 national regulation applies everywhere, and every clinic serving international patients needs a Ministry of Health authorisation certificate. Ask any clinic, in any city, to show it before you book.
